They were specially created, complete with their own architecture, way of life, and background story for the attraction that opened in 1990. This entry discusses the Laaf legendarium of Van de Ven, as it is primarily transmitted in the Lavenkrant, the album Stories and Songs about the People of Laaf, the narration in the Laafs Loerhuys, and the audio tour through the village, the LaafLoop. For practical reasons, we assign a similar position to all these sources in the Laaf canon. A Laaf is characterized by a relatively short length but is still clearly larger than a dwarf or gnome. A Laaf has a thick belly, a large head, a small nose, chubby cheeks, an exceptionally large filtrum, and sometimes multiple chins. There are almost only male Laven.
