Transparency and professionalism

As a professional webshop, we find transparency extremely important. We want our customers and suppliers to understand why we charge certain purchasing prices. Running an international webshop entails various costs, including:

  • Sales tax : We pay sales tax on European orders every quarter. This is 21% of the profit made from a product.
  • Income tax : At the end of the year we pay income tax (Tone Vintage's legal form is: sole proprietorship).
  • Platform costs : In addition to our own webshop, we also sell via Etsy and eBay , which entails additional costs. This is between 12.5% ​​and 25% that we have to give to the platform when we sell something.
  • Advertising costs : To reach our target group, we invest in various marketing activities.
  • Sales risk : We bear the risk that items may remain in our stock longer before they are sold. It also happens that packages get lost and the insurance service we use does not want to reimburse the shipment afterwards. As a result, we have to pay for this ourselves while we have been unable to do anything about it. For example, the package may have been lost, but the Track & Trace indicates that it has been delivered.
  • Fixed costs: In order to offer a wide range, we rent several storage boxes to store all items. There are also costs such as: software, website hosting, packaging materials, etc.
  • Business risk: The business risk is very good, because all the products we sell are vintage/second-hand, the storage that we rent cannot be insured. If a fire breaks out or all stock is stolen, we will lose everything and this will not be reimbursed. In addition, good administration must be kept because the company falls under the European margin scheme .
  • Working hours:In addition to all the above activities and costs, everything also takes a lot of time. For example, we have to test, clean, photograph and post everything we receive on our web shops.

Our purchasing strategy

We focus on collectibles and unique vintage items that collectors or gift seekers cannot easily find. This allows us to operate internationally and look for the right customers who are willing to pay a fair price for rare items.

Our purchasing strategy is based on an honest and professional approach. To ensure that we can cover costs and run a sustainable business, we use an average purchasing price that is 20% of the expected sales price. For example, if we expect to sell an item for €20, we can pay a maximum of €4 for it when purchasing. This ensures that we can cover our costs and at the same time offer good service and quality.

We mainly sell cameras and Walkmans on our other webshop Unseend . This is a specially created webshop for vintage electronics.

    We do not purchase broken or defective products. We take an honest and professional approach to determining the value of your items. We would like to hear your selling price and will then see if we can pay for it. If not, we will make an offer on your items.

    How does the sales process work?

    1. Contact : Email contact@tonevintage.com and upload photos of your items and indicate your asking price for the objects. We prefer to purchase multiple items and large collections.
    2. Assessment : We assess the condition and investigate whether we can pay the requested amount. If not, we will make a substantiated offer.
    3. Shipping label : If approved, we will send you a shipping label with insurance. For large collections we will come and collect the objects
    4. Shipping : Send the items to us with the shipping label.
    5. Payment : After receiving and checking the items, we will deposit the agreed amount via PayPal or bank transfer.
